Josie Fillman is excited to serve on the COSA Board as the Program Notes Chair for the 2025-2026 School year. This marks her second year at Michigan State University. She’s honored to have been a member of Concert Orchestra throughout her freshman year of college, and can’t wait to continue performing with such an incredible ensemble and group of people!

Josie began playing the violin in 4th grade when her school offered orchestra as a class, and has participated in orchestra every year since. In high school, she made Symphony Orchestra her freshman year, and worked her way up to principal second violin and then first violins by her senior year. She also served as the concertmaster for her school’s Rock Orchestra, and routinely performed in pit orchestra and led her section. Her high school orchestra teacher has always been one of her biggest supporters and she’s grateful for his kindness and effort every single day. Her favorite piece that she’s played is Dvořák’s Symphony No.9 “From the New World,” and her favorite musical is “Anything Goes.”

Being a member of an orchestra is such an important aspect of her life and brings her so much happiness and joy. Josie is thrilled to be able to contribute to her orchestra community by serving on the COSA Board and getting the opportunity to write about each repertoire.
