Audition Information and Frequently Asked Questions

When are the Auditions?

Fall Semester 2024

New and returning members must complete an in-person audition before the start of the semester. All auditions will be held on Sunday, August 25th, 2024 at the following times:

Violin - 9:00 a.m-12:00 p.m

Viola - 12:00 p.m-2:00 p.m

Cello - 2:30 p.m-4:30 p.m 

Bass - 4:30 p.m-5:30 p.m

Woodwinds (all) - 6:00 p.m-8:00 p.m

Brass (all) - 8:00 p.m-10:00 p.m

Percussion/Piano/Harp - 10:00 p.m-10:45 p.m

Where are the Auditions?

Fall Semester 2024

Auditions will be held in Eichler Hall at the Billman Music Pavilion of the MSU College of Music.

Who Can Audition?


Concert Orchestra is open to students, staff, and faculty from all corners of the university regardless of major.

What do I Need to Prepare for the Audition?

Fall Semester 2024

All participants will prepare two excerpts from a solo/concerto (total 5 minutes maximum) from a work of your choice, showing contrasting styles. In addition, participants should prepare a scale of choice (3 octaves for strings, 2 octaves for brass and winds). Note that auditions will not be blind

Auditions for the Fall semester are now closed
