The Concert Orchestra is pleased to have MSU graduate student accompanists provided for all participants.

All participants will get a 45 minute rehearsal on Saturday, November 19th. If selected for the final round, the accompanist will accompany you in the final round.

Participants will be scheduled for rehearsal times and will be notified by e-mail.

Following drawing for performance order, the competition will begin at 10 AM.

 

 

Eligibility

Any musician that plays regularly with the Concert Orchestra.

 

One movement of a concerto with cadenza or piece of similar caliber for solo instrument and orchestra, not to exceed 15 minutes.

Performance must be from memory with the exception of works written after 1930, and played with piano accompaniment.

Students are encouraged to explore repertoire by women composers, composers of and underrepresented composers in the canon.

 

The Director of the Concert Orchestra reserves the right to exercise discretion upon receiving the applications.

Please keep the playing level of the Concert Orchestra in mind when choosing repertoire.

 

The application form and a digital link to a recording and be delivered no later than 4:00 PM, Friday, November 11 to kilburn4@msu.edu. Late applications will not be accepted.

Contestants will be chosen by a committee and will be notified by e-mail by Monday, November 14, 2022 and will participate in the competition on Sunday afternoon, November 20, in Murray Hall. Rehearsals will take place on Saturday, November 19th in Eichler Hall (MB 140) between 10 am-8 pm. (Eichler will be available until 1 pm on the day of the competition for you to warm up and leave your belongings).

 

All participants must submit a short (150 word - strict) biography and a JPEG photo of themselves as part of the application. 

Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
